Privacy at Stretch

Stretch is a free student project that plans a week of meals from food deals near you. This page explains what we collect, why, who helps us run it, and how to get your data deleted. We don't sell your data and we don't show ads.

What we collect

Your setup

First name, suburb and postcode (we store the suburb's centre point, not your address; if you tap Use my location in the app, your phone works out your suburb on the device and only the suburb is sent to us), uni campus if you add one, weekly budget, how you eat, foods you avoid, cuisines you like, cooking level, kitchen equipment, what's in your pantry, meals out per week, whether delivery is ok, and when you want your new week.

What you do in Stretch

Your yum or nah swipes, the weeks we plan for you, shopping list ticks, questions you ask and our answers, and the heads-ups we show you.

A device ID

A random ID stored in your browser or the app, so your week is still there next time without an account.

Your account, if you make one

Email address and a securely hashed password, or the identifier Apple or Google gives us when you sign in with them. We use it to keep your week across devices.

The beta list, if you join it

Your email, which phone type you picked, where you found us (for example, a demo QR code) and your consent to be emailed.

Usage and performance

Anonymous counts and timings, such as which steps people finish, how long a week takes to build, and errors. These use a scrambled ID, never your name, email, food preferences or suburb. Our web host also counts page visits without cookies.

Why we use it

  • To find deals near your suburb and plan meals that fit your budget, diet and kitchen.
  • To learn your taste from your swipes so each week suits you better.
  • To keep your week on your devices when you sign in.
  • To email beta updates, only if you asked us to.
  • To keep Stretch fast, fair to use and working, including limits that stop overuse.

Who helps us run Stretch

These services process data for us, only to run Stretch:

  • Convex: our database and backend, hosted in Sydney, Australia.
  • Anthropic: the Claude AI that plans your meals and answers questions. It receives your setup, swipes and questions to do that. Under Anthropic's commercial terms this isn't used to train their models.
  • Cloudflare: hosts the website and counts visits.
  • Apple and Google: sign-in, if you choose them, and beta app delivery (TestFlight and Google Play).
  • Expo: builds and updates the mobile app.
  • OpenStreetMap (Nominatim): suburb search. Only the text you type in the suburb box is sent.
  • An analytics provider: receives the anonymous usage and performance data described above.

To find prices, our servers read public store and deal websites. We never send them anything about you. Some of these services are overseas, so your data may be processed outside Australia.

Keeping and deleting your data

We keep your data while you use Stretch. To see it or have it deleted, email krishnansidhaarth@gmail.com from your account email (or tell us your suburb and roughly when you started if you don't have an account), and we'll handle it within 30 days. You can leave the beta list any time from any email we send, or by asking.

Good to know

  • Stretch is meant for people aged 16 and over.
  • Prices and deals come from public sources and can change. Check before you shop.
  • Diet and allergy filters are careful but not a guarantee. Always check ingredients if you have an allergy.
  • If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top and tell beta members by email.
